About.

Renée Mackin is an artist on an uncharted musical journey. She is an Ohio born folk singer-songwriter based in Utah. She has been pegged  a seasoned storyteller, a songsmith, a little machine with a mighty voice, a troubadour, as well as a poet with lyrics that can make you cry.  Since 12 she has been writing lyrics and poetry of life experiences through her observations of nature’s gifts and human emotion. Being self-taught, her guitar style is uniquely intuitive and sometimes a little ‘crooked’.

Attending Woodstock at 15, she was inspired by the power of live music and female vocalists. At 17 she toured Europe with the All Ohio Youth choir and began college at Ohio University where she became steeped in researching the  history and culture of Appalachia as well as their roots, bluegrass and ‘hillbilly’ music. After graduating she and her husband landed in Utah.

A career in the creative side of hairstyling and raising 2 children put music on the back burner for a while; yet she  continued to  educate herself by attending music camps and playing in jam circles. She is a lead and founding member of the Bottom Dwellers and a partner in the Notch Sisters as a side project. She is currently establishing her originals at open mic performances and small venues and plans to record in the coming year.
